How does writing help readers with
comprehension?
In 2010, Carnegie Corporation published the Writing to Read
report. The report examines the impact of children’s writing on reading. The
report says:
Having students write about the texts they read helps improve
comprehension across all subjects. Students can: respond to text in writing,
write summaries of a text, write notes about a text, answer questions about
texts, or create questions about texts.
Students' reading and writing skills and comprehension are
improved by learning writing skills and the process that goes into creating a
text.
Increasing student writing will help with reading comprehension.
